Hypogastric Artery Ligation in Intractable Atonic Bleeding

Abstract
|
|
|
Therapeutic ligation of hypogastric artery may be safe, very effective & simple procedure in intractable postpartum atonic bleeding.
In order to appreciate the rationale of the procedure discussd in this review, according to medical literature,
the essencial surgical anatomy of the hypogastric arteries and their collaterals, and the physiology of hypoga stric artery ligation were reviewed.
On 7th, Jaun, ´82, therapeutic ligation of hypogastric artery (Rt unilateral) was procedured in intractable post-cesarean atonic bleeding.
Atonic bleeding was effectively controlled in this case. Therapeutic unilateral ligation of hypogastric artery
seemed to be a safe, effective and simple procedured in controlling atonic bleeding when conventional methods fail.
